About
Welcome to The Magnum, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Edinburgh at 1 Albany Street. This remarkable restaurant combines exquisite Scottish cuisine with a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly captures the essence of fine dining. As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I had the pleasure of sampling their delightful offerings, and I can assure you, it was an experience that lingers long after the last bite.
Stepping into The Magnum, one is immediately enveloped by a cozy ambiance, ideal for intimate dinners or celebrations. The staff greet you with genuine warmth, creating an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and approachable. The attentive service is a hallmark of The Magnum, allowing guests to savor each moment without feeling rushed — a sentiment echoed by many satisfied diners.
Let’s dive into the culinary highlights, starting with the starters. The Pan Seared King Scallops elegantly paired with Jerusalem artichoke and Champagne risotto are nothing short of spectacular, balancing texture and flavor beautifully. Likewise, the Traditional Cullen Skink, a rich Scottish soup made with delicate flakes of smoked haddock, offers a comforting burst of flavor that perfectly encapsulates the region's culinary heritage. It's no wonder diners like Julie R. leave singing praises about this dish!
The main course offerings are equally impressive. The Wagyu Burger stands out for being exceptionally juicy and flavorful, while their enhanced selection of Scottish specialties ensures that there's something delightful for every palate. And, of course, no meal is complete without dessert. The Sticky Toffee Pudding drizzled with butterscotch sauce and accompanied by homemade vanilla ice cream promises a sweet finish that dances on your taste buds.
For cocktail enthusiasts, The Magnum also boasts a well-curated bar. From a classic Negroni to the creamy indulgence of an Espresso Martini, there is a drink to pair beautifully with your meal or simply to unwind after a satisfying dining experience. The whispers of laughter and the clinking of glasses create a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for engaging with locals and fellow diners alike.
The Magnum, as numerous guests, including Tork Mackenzie and Reena Roy, have noted, excels not only in culinary artistry but in crafting memorable experiences. With every visit, you are treated like family, making it a true must-visit destination for both locals and tourists looking to immerse themselves in the best of Scottish cuisine.
In essence, The Magnum is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of flavors, culture, and community, all served with a touch of Scottish hospitality. Whether you're indulging in their delectable dishes or enjoying a quiet drink at the bar, a visit to The Magnum is bound to leave you longing for a return, just like Lee Hefty remarked after his wonderful dinner. So, if you're in Edinburgh, make sure to add this exquisite establishment to your must-visit list.
“ I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Magnum, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. We went specifically to try the Scottish traditional soup - Cullen Skink, which was absolutely delicious! We also had the Venison Tenderloin as a main, which was also perfect! The overall dining experience was one of the best we've had in a long time. The restaurant boasts a great selection of wines to complement the meal, and the cozy, intimate atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing time there. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring that every detail was taken care of. I highly recommend this place to any visitor or resident of Edinburgh. It's a must-visit destination for anyone looking for exceptional food, a warm atmosphere, and outstanding service. We can't wait to return! ”
“ Good restaurant out from the tourist area. Nice staff a good atmosphere. Good selection of Scottish specialties ”
“ This was a wonderfull eating experience as the Magnum excelled with the food , the service , atmosphere and general ambience which were excellent. We had the corner table and were immediately struck by the professional and freindly service from all staff , the dining room is cosy and intimate and was full for the entire time we were there but the staff werent hurried and we recieved the food with plenty of time between courses so didnt feel rushed . The star of the show though is the food which was truly wonderfull , I had the cullen skink to start , the wagyu burger and then the sticky toffee pudding to finish , we then retired to the well stocked bar for a few cocktails and a blether with the locals and staff , an excellent place for a great meal away from the touristy masses , highly recommended. ”

“ We definitely came more than once! We were recently in Edinburgh for work and happened across the Magnum. It was so very good the first time, we came back more than once. The service was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable. Amongst our favourite dishes were the venison and the fish, though everything else was great as well. They also have a very large selection of whiskeys, some of which are very unique. If you are looking for a great place to eat and enjoy yourself, you cannot go wrong here! Thanks to all the staff and the chef for some great meals and lovely atmosphere. ”
“ This was probably the best meal we had in Edinburgh! It is off the beaten path from the tourist focused areas which we loved! High quality food. Great service. ”
“ Even though we arrived a little late compared to Scottish standards (it was 11pm) the barmaid welcomed us with a smile and served us with kindness, without rushing us and making us feel at ease! Excellent choice between Gin and Whisky! ”
